Dear Mr Ang Tang Loong,

Invitation to present at the
Australian Fumigation Accreditation Scheme (AFAS) Symposium.

The first ever AFAS symposium on ‘Achieving Improved Quarantine Treatment Capacity through the Implementation of the AFAS Approach' will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia 17 - 19 April 2007. The Symposium is being jointly coordinated by Indonesia and Australia and co-sponsored by Malaysia and the USA.

The AFAS 2007 Symposium aims to bring together business and government agencies currently involved with AFAS and those economies interested in future AFAS involvement. This Symposium will allow participants to discuss the current AFAS project, their implementation experiences, review systems, investigate opportunities for efficiencies and improvements in the program and its underlying methodology and to discuss the future direction of AFAS, in particular its possible evolvement into a regional and international arrangement.

It is my great pleasure to invite you to provide a presentation at the Symposium on Malaysia's thoughts on the AQIS Methyl Bromide Standard. Please find below further information regarding your presentation.

Presentation
We would like the Symposium presentations to focus on what can be learnt from presenter's experiences to date in the AFAS program. The subject matter for your presentation is “The AQIS Methyl Bromide Standard”. In particular we would like you to discuss the following:

Any technical aspects of the Standard that need changing or could be improved; and

The presentation of the standard and any ways that it could be improved.

Presentations should be no more than 15 minutes in length and will be followed by a 10 minute discussion period. Presentation facilities will include a lectern, a projector and a laptop suitable for presentations in pc format.

Papers

You may choose to prepare a paper for the Symposium of anywhere between 1 and 5 pages. This may take the form of either of a brief outline of the focus of your presentation or a more detailed paper.

If you would like to prepare a paper to be circulated to all participants at the Symposium, this will need to be received by 2 April 2007. Papers may be sent to AFAS@aqis.gov.au.

If you have any queries regarding your presentation please do not hesitate to contact either Ms Fiona Mavris or Ms Malika Bouhafs at AFAS@aqis.gov.au or telephone 61 2 6272 5751.

Kind regards
